Happy Summer my friends!
It’s the time of year where I love to go to the beach!
Do you enjoy frolicking with the waves and running on the sand? I enjoy relaxing in the sun with the ocean breeze on my snout! It can be confusing knowing which beaches are dog friendly. Huntington Dog Beach is located between Seapoint Street and 21st Street. You might even see some of our staff there like Northpark Lead Receptionist Kristianna and her dog Nova! Here’s a list of other Orange County Beaches and their rules about how dog friendly they are https://www.californiabeaches.com/map/dog-friendly-beaches-orange-county/.
Looking to travel the California Coast? Here are even more dog beaches you can visit – http://www.visitcalifornia.com/attraction/11-great-california-dog-beaches!
In case you missed it, our May newsletter has a list of items to put together an emergency kit while your out to play!
A word of caution whether on the beach, on the trails or in your yard – the bees are buzzing about. My brother Ulysses just had a bee sting scare. My dad rushed him to IVS Northpark to be treated. Check out our webpage on our “Bee Kits” available to pets that have had an allergic reaction to bee stings in the past. If you think your pet has been stung, head over to one of our practices right away!
Can’t travel with your humans this summer? That’s ok! IVS offers boarding, bathing and grooming services to meet your needs! Check out our articles and boarding video below to see which one is best for you. I have to say – I love boarding with all my friends at IVS and I love getting my bath and haircut before I go home so I smell and look great when I get picked up! IVS is my home away from home!
Love and kisses –
Meeting Your Pet’s Boarding Needs
By Joshlyn, Assistant PM
Google boarding for your town or city. Are you overwhelmed by the results? Here is a simple breakdown of the types of options available for boarding your pet.
- For dogs that need extra playtime, you might consider a day care with an overnight boarding facility that lets your dog interact with other dogs during the day and gives them extra activities. Some day care facilities even have a place for cats to stay and play. To see a list of the top 2017 boarding facilities voted on by clients like you, visit City Voter.
- For cats and dogs that need medical care (treatments, medications, etc.) having them board at your veterinarian’s office might be the best option for you. They have medical professionals looking after them while you are away. IVS offers boarding services for medical and non-medical needs. We complete a physical exam on your pet at admission, throughout extended stays and before they go home. Plus we interact with your pet one-on-one at least 2x daily during their walks and feeding times. Watch our boarding video to see more
- Another option for pets that might be too nervous or used to being at home all the time would be a pet sitter. Pet sitters can make trips to your home or stay with your pet at your home, so your pets can stay on their normal schedule. Pet sitters can be found word of mouth or by apps on your phone or websites that specifically cater to pet sitting. One resource for finding a pet sitter near you is Pet Sitters International .
When choosing an option for your pet, think about your pet’s personality. Do they enjoy trips to the dog park and playing with other dogs? Does your cat hide under the bed when people come over? Is your pet diabetic? We highly recommend you tour facilities and interview staff and pet sitters to find the right fit for you.
We wish you and your pet(s) a happy and safe summer!
Value of Boarding at IVS – A Technician’s View
By Aubrey, Head
IVS offers a unique spin on boarding.
Every pet that boards here at IVS receives a thorough exam by a technician. We look to make sure the pet does not have fleas, any skin issues, possible ear infections, etc. that would make it beneficial for them to have an exam with the doctor. Some of these issues are missed at home and can be addressed while they are staying with us. We also look at their teeth and do a Kissability Test for those we feel would benefit from a dental cleaning. This shows pictures comparing your pet’s teeth with healthy ones. Along with this, we provide you with a treatment plan specifically for your pet. We follow up with you on any doctor recommendations while your pet is here.
For those pets who are on medication, the technicians are the ones who administer them according to the doctor’s instructions. It’s important that someone trained on how to dose and administer medications be responsible for your pet’s care. The best part is all the love we get to give your pet during these one-on-one encounters, after all, this is why we do what we do to begin with.
Having your pet stay at IVS ensures that they are being taken care of not only by the excellent kennel staff but also by the medically trained technicians and doctors who are here to give the best care possible to your furry loved ones.
